The city of Nicholasville takes pride in providing many crucial services to its citizens-such as police and fire protection, parks, and street and road maintenance. The resources needed to provide these services are obtained through taxes, as consistent with laws enacted by the Kentucky General Assembly.

Nicholasville has three types of taxes: employee's payroll tax, occupational license fee, and property tax. Descriptions and links to forms needed for each are provided for your convenience.

Occupational License
Each person engaged in any occupation, trade or profession or other business activity conducted for gain or profit in the city shall first make application in writing to the city of Nicholasville Tax Office. The Business Registration Form and Gross Receipts Chart are provided by the city and must be completed before the applicant will be authorized to conduct business. The licensing year runs April 1 through March 31. This application and fees due apply to entities conducting business in the city that meet the definition of a local business in Section 21 – 33 of the City Code of Ordinances. The completed application, along with the required fee should be sent to: City of Nicholasville, 517 N. Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356.
Employee's Payroll Tax
All persons engaged in any trade, occupation or profession within the city, when employed by another, shall pay a license fee measured by and equal to one and one-half percent (1.5%) of gross receipts paid for the service. A person shall be considered to be employed by another when the compensations received is subject to FICA withholding requirements as by the Internal Revenue, or is otherwise excluded by federal or state law. An Employee Withholding Tax Form, an Individual Payroll Tax Form, and an Annual Reconciliation Form are provided for this purpose. If it is found that overpayment has been made, a Request for Refund Form may be submitted.

Property Tax
The city of Nicholasville will mail property tax bills to property owners in early November and are due by December 15th. If the tax bill is to be paid by the mortgage company, it is the property owner's responsibility to forward it to their current mortgage company. Property tax is .176 per $100 of assessed value.
