On occasions, specific safety and security problems arise that need to be addressed in a concentrated effort, such as a high incidence of speeding on a stretch of road or increases in theft or other crimes in a neighborhood. This information may be gained through police monitoring or citizen complaints. Under these circumstances, the NPD may establish a directed patrol to intercept offenders.
