The Allen Company continues work on the East side of Main Street. Sidewalks are being formed this week between Oak Street and Maple Street. Weather permitting the sidewalks will be poured
by the end of the week. Within the next two weeks we should start seeing the decorative pavers being installed on the first block.
Dixon Electric is working on the electric conduit on the third block from Maple Street to Chestnut Street. After the electric work is completed curbs and gutter work will begin.

Last week the majority of the demolition was completed on the east side of Main Street. Work continues at the corner of the intersection of Main/Chestnut at
the Old Jail, which will have an ADA accessible ramp when the work is completed. Sidewalks and curbs on the first block between Oak and Walnut will be poured
in the next few days.
Public parking is available on the corner of Walnut Street and Main Street and on the corner of York Street and Maple next to the barber shop.

We are anticipating that the contractors will be bringing back crews from their winter lay-off in the very near future. Both the contractors and the City are anxious for the work to begin.
The immediate plan is to re-work the curbs on the corners of Oak/Main, Walnut/Main and Oak/Main and to finish the areas that have been worked on previously.
Public on-street parking on the east side of Main Street to Chestnut Street has been temporarily opened up until work resumes.

The weather has not been cooperative during the project, causing work to be impossible. As weather permits, The Allen Company will re-stripe Main Street and begin surveying for the next phase of the project.
Based on the UK Agricultural Weather Center, This past December was cold, in fact the average temperature for the month was the 5th coldest December on record. Most every day lows were below the freezing mark, with several days
staying below the freezing mark for highs. Temperatures for the period averaged 28.4 degrees across the state which was 8.8 degrees cooler than normal and 16 degrees cooler than the previous period.
From January 1, 2011 through January 26, 2011, the average temperature was 28 degrees, with eleven days of recorded precipitation.

This week insulated blankets will be removed from sidewalks that were recently poured. Please DO NOT use salt or deicer products on
the sidewalks because they are not completely cured.

Winter has arrived!! The Allen Company has begun to pour concrete from Oak Street to Chestnut Street.
Underground electrical work continues from Walnut Street to Maple Street. From Maple Street to Chestnut Street
water improvements are being made.
Beginning December 20, 2010 through January 3, 2011 the Allen Company will take a two week holiday break.

Construction will continue on the Oak to Walnut Street Block with the installation of curbs. Electrical work will also continue from Walnut to Maple Street.
Work will begin on the Block from Maple to Chestnut with the removal of on-street parking and the shifting of traffic. Demolition will begin on the East side of Main Street between Maple and Chestnut later this week.

Lane Closures scheduled for US 27X (Main Street) in Nicholasville
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways announces that lane closures will take place on US 27X (Main Street in Nicholasville).
Work will begin on Wednesday evening, September 29th at 9:00 p.m. and continue until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, September 30th.
These same work hours, 9:00 p.m. in the evening to 6:00 a.m in the morning, will be in effect for approximately the next two weeks.
These lane closures are neccessary for milling, paving, and sidewalk work to be completed. One lane will remain open at all times.
Appropriate signage and flaggers will be in place to guide motorists.
All work is scheduled on a tentative basis and is subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control
of the Department of Highways.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks Motorists to be aware of the work zone and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the work area.

At the first progress meeting on the Downtown Streetscape, two concerned citizens were present asking about left hand turn lanes
and the set up of the intersections upon completion. No turn lanes will be eliminated and the intersections will be set back for
greater visibility and safety for motoring public and pedestrians.
This week and next, the focus will continue on Main Street from Oak Street to Walnut Street. Demolition, storm sewers and
underground utilities will be the main priority.

Week of 9/13/10 - 09/17/10
The Allen Company started on the Nicholasville Downtown Streetscape Project on Monday, September 13, 2010 on the East Side of
Main Street with demolition of curb, sidewalks and storm water facilities. Parking on Main Street from Oak to Maple on both
sides will be temporarily removed until further notice. All left hand turns off Main Street may be difficult during peak times,
because of the lack of turning lanes.
Please look for signage indicating temporary parking. Public parking is available on Second Street and Oak Street (across from
Cundiff Funeral Home), South York and Maple Street (next to barber shop) and on street parking is available on York Street. Parking
will not be affected on cross streets.
Construction will be moving from block to block. Please check back often for updates on www.nicholasville.org and www.nicholasvillenow.org.
There will be informational meetings on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. open to the public at City Hall.
On September 2, 2010, a pre-construction meeting was held between the City and The Allen Company. The work will begin on September 13, 2010 on the East Side of the block running from Main to Walnut. The initial start date was to begin on September 7, 2010 but it was decided by all to hold off until after the Jessamine Jamboree that will be held on September 10 and September 11, 2010.
On July 29, 2010, the Nicholasville City Commission awarded the bid for the Nicholasville Streetscape
Project to the Allen Company, who was the successful low bidder, in the amount of $1,678,810.80 for the
Nicholasville Downtown Streetscape project that will include Main Street from Oak Street to Chestnut Street.
The project will be funded with state bond money that was appropriated in the 2008-2010 Biennial Highway Construction Plan.
The project will help to generate new business opportunities, improve accessibility and enhance aesthetics in downtown Nicholasville.
The project should be competed by summer 2011.
